a story in Ghent
A red door
— in a quiet little square at the foot of the cathedral…
The Belgian Girl was born out of the idea of promoting Belgium and taking pride in what our country has to offer.
The building dates back to 1870 and had been standing empty for a while when we happened to see it advertised for sale in 2024. We restored it together with skilled tradespeople — joiners, plasterers, painters… people with a passion for old houses — and preserved as much of the original character as possible: the ornamentation, the fireplaces and the parquet flooring.
As far as possible, everything we added came from our own country. The wallpaper, the beds, the lighting, the chair upholstery – everything was made in Belgium.
Hence the name.

Who will
receive you
Veerle, your hostess, welcomes you with open arms.
I live on the first floor with my daughter Ana and my partner Danny.
Having always worked internationally, it was time to stay a bit closer to home.
During my business trips abroad, I’ve always promoted Belgium and shown my love for my country.
Whatever Belgians do, they usually do it well!
Belgians could certainly be a bit prouder of their country.
Even when I was with customers from abroad, I invariably took them only to Belgian restaurants, both in and outside Ghent. They were always lovely moments.
As I love showcasing Belgium, once we’d bought this house, it didn’t take long to decide what we’d do: promote Belgium!
We’re always happy to offer tips — a good restaurant, a peaceful cycle route along the Leie, or a less obvious museum. But we’ll also let you set your own pace.
Sometimes the best thing about a stay is that you don’t have to do anything.
We very much hope that you enjoy this house as much as we do.
